Once hidden behind high walls, "Le Quartier des Pistes" was long one of the most mysterious districts of Clermont-Ferrand. It is set to become a unique space for sharing experiences and learning about the past, fully open to the city.This sustainable and inclusive transformation, driven by Michelin in close collaboration with local stakeholders, is built around three pillars: culture, tourism, and sport/health.
More than 400,000 visitors are expected each year at "Le Quartier des Pistes", making it a major destination and a powerful driver of regional pride and visibility.
A 10-hectare site, including 3.5 hectares of green spaces

Spread across 10 hectares, "Le Quartier des Pistes" will be structured around three major areas:
- A green park spanning 3.5 hectares, planted with 300 trees, featuring shared gardens and an urban farm, creating a cool oasis in the heart of the city.
- "Les Pistes à Ciel ouvert", on 2.5 hectares transforming the former Michelin test tracks into a unique experiential venue.
- A 4-hectare activity hub dedicated to tourism, culture and hospitality.
Built between 1926 and 1930, the Michelin test tracks are currently covered. These facilities once tested tire endurance using weighted carts running continuously up and down the ramps of three impressive buildings, which earned them the name "back-and-forths".
They are a remarkable piece of world industrial heritage. Closed in 2000 after all testing moved to the Research and Development site in Ladoux, these tracks are now set to become the focal point of "Le Quartier des Pistes", a space open to everyone where industrial memory meets new urban life.
The Quartier des Pistes will create urban cooling areas, with perceived temperatures 4 to 6°C lower than the surrounding environment. It will also function as a “camel district,” capable of harvesting rainwater to avoid using potable water for the maintenance of the Park’s shared green spaces.
With 400,000 visitors expected each year, the Quartier des Pistes will become a major driver of attractiveness for Clermont‑Ferrand and the surrounding region. It will bring together emblematic facilities, including the new Aventure Michelin, a performance venue, business tourism spaces, a cultural and community hall, the Cité du Mouvement dedicated to promoting physical activity for health, social inclusion initiatives, as well as a hotel and residential housing.
All these projects share a common ambition: to offer innovative and engaging experiences for all. The district will be constantly animated and continuously renewed, creating a lively and evolving destination.
Anciennes pistes d’essai Michelin, les Pistes à Ciel Ouvert feront l’objet d’une réhabilitation ambitieuse pour devenir un espace d’expériences unique. Le projet révélera ces volumes monumentaux à travers des parcours immersifs, artistiques, ludiques ou spectaculaires, mêlant mémoire industrielle et création contemporaine, et offrant au public une nouvelle manière de vivre le patrimoine.
Located in a renovated historic building, the new Aventure Michelin will offer an immersive and interactive journey dedicated to the history, innovation and culture of mobility. Spanning 6,000 m², it will showcase a remarkable heritage and deliver a renewed, multisensory experience open to all audiences.
With a capacity of 1,600 to 2,200 seats, the future performance venue will become a major cultural facility for the metropolitan area. Designed to host concerts, live performances and professional events, it will offer high‑quality acoustics and stage design.
A true creative place, the Halle F4 will host artist studios, cultural events, exhibitions, markets, community initiatives and social spaces. Open to all, it will foster connections between residents, cultural actors and professionals, within a heritage building that preserves its industrial identity.
Located in a bright building overlooking the Chaîne des Puys, the dining space will offer a unique concept centered on world cuisines and travel. International bistronomy, culinary workshops, a cooking school and social spaces will invite visitors to explore flavors and cultures from near and far.
Led by ASM Omnisports, "La Cité du Mouvement" is a unique project dedicated to health, sport and well-being. Through active pathways, playful and immersive experiences, it will raise awareness among all audiences about physical activity, nutrition and prevention, through an inclusive and educational approach.
This initiative will bring together an urban farm, community gardens, horticultural workshops and social inclusion activities. The Légumerie d’Auvergne will promote local production by processing fruits and vegetables, while the Cité Verte will contribute to the renaturation of the district and the development of new practices around sustainable food.
The Quartier des Pistes will include a hotel, residential housing and business tourism facilities, reinforcing its role as a vibrant and mixed-use district. These functions will complement the cultural and leisure offerings, welcoming visitors, professionals and new residents alike at the heart of the site.
